Snake once again looked through his scope down his appointed avenue. Looking to his left after checking for enemies, he examined his escape routes once again. To his left, he had a door that led to a small drop-off, which would lead him out into an alleyway, which would force him to head for the street, which would lead to some sewers. To his right, he had a window that, when jumped out of, would cause him to drop 14 feet onto ground in the middle of the street. And finally, he had a trap door under the carpet that led to the sewers, just like the door. Hearing a click over his Codec, he double-clicked the 'No Problems' message back to Samus, who was watching the only other path through the city that was quick.
The Mk. III peeked around a corner and saw nothing, so it headed back to rest near Snake to recharge it's battery pack. Otacon, at its control panel, yawned as he shut it down. "Why don't you get some sleep, Doctor?" "I should, but no one knows how to use this thing besides Sunny, who's asleep..." "Well, of course we don't know how to use it; you haven't tried to teach anyone..." Otacon just shook his head and stood up. "Fine, I'll get some rest... Don't stay up too late yourself, Ms. Keyes" As Otacon left the room, he checked the clock. '3:15pm in the morning... Jeez...' he thought to himself as he headed for his new quarters.
Liquid and Wolf, like Samus and Snake, were watching for any sign of the Covenant. However, they were forward scouts, staying hidden and preparing to phone any information back to HQ. Wolf looked over and saw Liquid once again trying to see any movement through his scope. Yawning, he popped his neck, and went back to searching. His thermal scope picked up no movement, so he kept scanning, hoping that he would, and wouldn't, find the enemy. Wolf looked through her scope again, and upon seeing nothing, looked back to Liquid and, to her surprise and amusement, found him asleep. Taking a moment to have some fun, she stuck random plants and flowers in his hair and then went back to watching and waiting.
Master Chief was waiting near the ambush point when he heard Cortana speak to him. "Do you think this'll work, Chief?" "If it doesn't, we'll just shoot our way out" "Hah, nice, the same line you used on me a while back" "Well, it worked for the situation, and I had to lighten your mood..." "Aw, you actually care about me" The super soldier rolled his eyes and went back to sleep, having woken up ten minutes ago.
Ocelot, having snuck away when everyone left for Samus's ship, was still on the first planet. He was looking for Big Boss, seeing as the FOXHOUND members were alive again, he deduced that Big Boss must be alive. He just kept moving, avoiding patrols and using his old skills to stay alive. The only one to join him was Fortune, who was looking for Vamp. The two, though not exactly on good terms, agreed that they needed to find the ones they were looking for.
Meryl, on the other hand, was searching for her other teammates through the radios. With Johnny Sasaki helping, they had a good chance to find them. Having been sleeping long after everyone had gotten off of Samus's ship, she had come out after Johnny had retrieved her. Johnny, however, had been eating his breakfast while everyone on the ship went out. By the time he had realized, everyone had been off the ship for fifteen minutes. His first order of business had been to get his weapons, then wake up Meryl, then help her with whatever she wanted. He had been running around for at least two minutes, trying to find everything for her.
Eventually, they got out of the ship, introduced themselves to Jacob Keyes and Miranda, and were told that it was too late to join in on the ambush mission. Seeing as they had time to waste, they started using the known frequencies to try and contact Ed and Johnathan.
Sniper Wolf was smiling at the snoring Liquid when she heard a noise. Looking through her scope, her eyes widened as she saw a huge amount of alien troops that seemed to have come out of nothing. Waking Liquid to make sure she wasn't seeing things, which he confirmed that she wasn't, she radioed Solid Snake. "Snake...!" "Wolf? What is it?" "We have a great deal of enemies heading your way" "Right, get my brother and get out, then make your way to your designated spots... I guess its Showtime..." "Right, we'll be there..." Ending the call, she and Liquid grabbed their things and ran for the hills overlooking the small village/town.
Snake quickly informed Samus and HQ about the threat. Otacon was getting something to eat when he was told. He was about to bite down on a sandwich when Miranda burst in. He was still chewing on a piece when he started up the Mk. III. Sunny, now awake because of the commotion, got the Mk. II going and found that the Spartan was already alert. Looking around to see the room, she also saw Sgt. Johnson looking out a window, shotgun in one hand, pistol in the other. And on his back was a sniper rifle. On the ground, Assault Rifles and Battle Rifles littered the floor, along with various grenades and a line of Rocket Launchers and ammo. Otacon was doing the same, with Solid Snake and Gray Fox peering out of the holes and windows in the house. Raiden, however, had accompanied Samus, being her scout.
Wolf set up her rifle overlooking the town with The Arbiter, him using a Plasma Rifle and a Covenant Sniper Rifle. Liquid, however, was about 100 ft below her, already set up, with Decoy Octopus, each using a high-power rifle. Glancing down into the street, Gray Fox gave the 'Enemy' signal to Psycho Mantis, who told Raven, who started getting his Gatling Gun ready. Vulcan Raven had his weapon ready within 3 minutes. Hefting the huge weapon, he nodded to Mantis, who went into each person's mind and asked them if they were ready. "Ready..." "Ready, let's give them a good show..." "Showtime..." "All Good..." "Here we go, huh?" "Let's do this..." "They won't escape my sights..." "I can't have my brother outdoing me!" "I am ready..." "How much am I getting paid, again?" "Hooah!" "It's about time..." Finding everything okay, Mantis submitted the report to HQ, who put everyone on alert, and to only engage when they are in the town. Jacob Keyes also stated that Tanks and heavy weapon weilders were to go down with the first shots. "Keep this in mind, the more powerful the weapon, the higher the rank with these guys... Shoot them first..."
An hour later, the meat of the Covenant force was in the town. Solid Snake had been watching one of the rather large ape-like aliens called Brutes. He had been watching his head through the scope of his DSR-1, waiting patiently for the order to attack. He put his finger to the trigger when he heard the radio crackle. "All forces... ATTACK!" Snake fired as soon as he heard the a in attack. The Brute Cheiftan didn't know what hit him, the round going straight though his shields and exploding his left eye. As the brute fell, it seemed as if the buildings had caught fire, so many shots were fired. The tanks that were among the enemies were exploding faster than ever thought possible. With the Chief and Johnson firing rockets down upon them, Samus and Snake started shooting with normal shots, picking off choice enemies.
Sniper Wolf, however, was having an easy time, with 99% of the shots fired by the Covenant forces was concentrated on those in the town itself. The Arbiter was missing very often, but he wasn't firing as many shots as she was. She was aiming for an alien with a round shield when he was taken down by the Arbiter. She smirked and took down the one next to that one.
The Chief was thinking that this was too easy when 7 hunters came flying around a corner. Quickly firing upon them, three of them fired back with their cannons. They easily decimated the house, and the Spartan and Johnson retreated back, with Solid Snake now coming under fire from them. Samus took two down with Snake and then retreated with him. Reaching the next set of fortifications, Solid Snake picked off a Grunt with two plasma grenades, making him blow up amongst a group of Grunts. He grinned until he saw the 5 hunters with 2 Brute Chieftans. Before the Chieftans could make a difference, they were cut down, along with a Hunter, by Raiden and Gray Fox.
The Hunters were almost to the fortifications when a door a ways behind them was kicked open and Vulcan Raven stepped out. Leveling his Gatling Gun, he unleashed a torrent of shots into the most vulnerable spot on the Hunters, killing them quickly. Now, several brutes ran around the corner, but were confronted by Psycho Mantis. Smiling under his mask, Mantis went to work, defeating the Brutes with ease.
Now the sky was full of bullets, Flight Brutes, and several Banshees. Along the ground, with the Phantoms destroyed, Ghosts were dashing around, with various aliens at their controls. Firing upon the cyborgs, Raiden and Fox quickly fell back, dodging and blocking shots. They weren't only saving their own skins, but luring the Ghosts into a trap. And they sprung it gloriously, with Solid Snake, Samus, Master Chief, and Johnson blowing them to bits with missles and, for Solid Snake, Rail Gun shots.
After another hour, the Covenant forces were in retreat, falling back through the town, trying to regroup. It was a costly retreat, as Liquid, Wolf, Snake, Samus, Johnson, and the Arbiter shot up all those that came into their sights. By the time the Covenant forces had regrouped, there were only approximately 83 of them left. Their leader, the last Brute Chieftan, decided that taking the town would get them all killed. Retreating back, he was taken out by Sniper Wolf's last bullet, and upon him falling dead, every single Covenant soldier ran for their lives...
